When there are multiple bright colors in your interior, decorating and painting pumpkins is the perfect way to add pattern to your room.  Since these items will be temporary, you can use any inexpensive craft source to add texture to the space.

If you are not comfortable with lots of color in your interior, then a sophisticated Halloween may be more your style.  Trends of white and black decor are very popular during this season.  Gathering items like white pumpkins, black wreaths, and silver candelabras with spiderwebs will show your friends how to celebrate with style.  Punching small items with whimsical typography on pillows and napkins can make a statement in this modern chic look.

Heart of the Home.

As summer begins to fade, and autumn enters our lives, the temperatures begin to drop and the leaves begin to change colors. Just as the weather changes so do our concerns.  Changing of our wardrobes is one, getting the kids back to school another, and finally the holidays arriving.  As we know, the season spring generally is known for sprucing up and cleaning out our homes, but what do we need to focus on during the fall and winter months?

Autumn Kitchen 2013

This season is full of family get togethers and events.  With Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas just around the corner, you may start to ask questions such as “what shall I bring to parties, and how can I impress my guests?”  Both of these  lead us to the heart of the home, the kitchen.

The kitchen is the place where we do most of our cooking and gathering, regardless if its making Halloween candies, cooking a Thanksgiving dinner or baking Christmas cookies.  This is the space in your home that will get the most use. The kitchen is generally the gathering place for both your family and your guests.  Many individuals don’t realize that this area is not always as comfortable for their guests as it should be.  Small touches such as banquets and barstools are ways to incorporate more seating in a space to make the area more comfortable.

If you find that you have all the seating space that your kitchen needs, you may want to reconsider what shape your dining chairs are in.  Even if you think that they are in great condition because the fabric still looks new, what you may not notice is that your foam has begun to break down from all the wear and tear of people sitting on them over the years.   Foam generally will have a lifespan of 5-7 years before its starts to break down.  Even if this is a space where you don’t generally sit, your foam can still be damaged.  If you have chairs which are over 7 years old, the inside may start to harden, leading to crumbling. Or it can break down and become flat. When this starts to happen you no longer have the support in the chairs to make you and your guests comfortable.

If you notice that your once comfortable chairs are now hard or have become less supportive, reupholstering is a great solution. Unfortunately it is not usually to save the original fabric if your foam has worn out, but with the expert designers at Fabrics and Frames, you can find a fabric that is comparable or that will coordinate well ensuring that your chairs remain clean, taught, and comfortable for the holidays. This would also be a great time to update your look to add a bit of excitement to a room that is used by everyone who enters your home and you will have your guests gushing with complements!

Decorating with Orange

In 2012   “Tango Tangerine” was selected as color of the year, encouraging orange lovers to spread the color around their homes as the primary color in their decor.  Studies have shown that when you enter a room filled with the color orange your brain is stimulated to experience feelings of excitement, enthusiasm, and warmth.  This color would be ideal for an office space or home gym because of the energy it projects  although many “orange” fans like the color spread throughout their home because of the warm and inviting feeling it has.  During the autumn months, orange is a great color to incorporate into your room scheme because it allows you to be festive with holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving by bringing the outdoor foliage colors into your home!  Below are some images that show you how orange can be incorporated  into the decor of your home in a tasteful way!

Autumn Decor using orange

When decorating with orange you don’t always have to stay monochromatic.  Some individuals like to decorate with complementary colors like blue and orange hues to create contrast in the room.  When using these two colors together, be aware that the room will more often than not have contemporary flare.

Another great color scheme is grey and orange.  The grey allows most of the room to appear to have a soothing quality to it, but the orange tends to bring warmth to the room.  Having  simple combinations of both colors incorporated into a fabric, like the one below, can help bring the room together.

Orange is a great color to accent any room with!  It’s qualities bring both energy and warmth to a room, allowing the guests to feel welcomed.  Although you probably do not want the whole room orange, by incorporating a few accents of the color will give you this wonderful feeling! Tango Tangerine was a great choice for color of the year because of its versatility and ability to create so many different emotions and when used sparingly can help you create the perfect space for both relaxing and creativity!
